PROMOTER: CASTELL-PLATJA D'ARO CITY HALL   ·   ARCHITECT: ERIC AZNAR SANS (EA STUDIO)   ·   BUDGET: 6.475,751,60€   ·  LOCATION: PLATJA D'ARO - CATALONIA (SPAIN)   ·   TYPE OF INTERVENTION: NEW BUILDINGS & URBAN REFURBISHMENT  ·  STATUS: PROJECT

The NEW ADMINISTRATIVE CENTRE PLATJA D'ARO divides the programme in two new buildings, strategically placed to generate a piazza -as a neuralgical space where movement and people interaction happens- with the help of a third preexisting piece: the  municipal library which will be enlarged.

The most important feature of the whole intervention is to get a perimetral facade of the piazza in an uniform language characterised by porticos in which a reinterpretation of the calssic orders can be atribuited.

The first and most important building is obviously the City Hall building, which presides the open space to stablish a dialogue among the other buildings. Its presence is noted by its height and volumetry.

The second piece is the Municipal Archive building, which delimites the west side of the square. This is connected to the City Hall building through a covered porch that acts as an articulation between them.

The third and preexisting building is extended and includes a new portico which acts as a pavilion to give a new access to the old and new space of library.
